Naknek River Fish and Stay
Prize dates: 5/18 – 5/23
King Salmon is the gateway to Katmai National Park and Preserve and Bristol Bay, home to the largest sockeye salmon fishery in the world. People come from around the world to watch bears catch salmon jumping up Brooks Falls, or go fishing to catch their own salmon, watch beluga whales chase salmon up the Naknek River, and to check out Valley of 10,000 Smokes. The King Salmon Visitor Center hosts wildlife historical and cultural exhibits. In autumn months, the tundra is a berry-picker’s delight, with blueberries, lingonberries, cloudberries, crowberries and more. And the King Salmon area has excellent birdwatching and hunting, including waterfowl, raptors, and migratory birds.
