In 1949, Alaska Airlines pilots and crew joined in an effort to airlift 49,000 Yemenite Jews from Yemen to Israel. Operation Magic Carpet lasted into 1950, consisting of more than 430 flights. The mission came just after Alaska Airline’s involvement in the Berlin Airlift and set us off on a future committed to helping others. More recently, in 2021, Alaska Airlines joined in the Afghan Humanitarian Airlift Mission as the U.S. military worked to evacuate individuals and families from Afghanistan. After 90 years, we’re proud to continue our legacy of doing the right thing and harnessing our unique skills for good.
